Interior Design is one such profession which amalgamates both the aesthetics and functional parameters.Designers should be focused on creating beautiful interiors which are functional at the same time aesthetically pleasing.Aesthetics include the use of soft furnishings, plethora of materials, vibrant colors, drapes, cushions, rich fabrics etc that helps in enhancing the beauty of space.It is a human instinct to be drawn towards the aesthetics and crave for beauty hence aesthetics assumes a primary focal point while the function comes secondary.That is principally the work of interior decorators but with changing times more and more people necessitates function over aesthetics.

A professional interior designer is a person who takes into account both the parameters and creates a livable environment for the user.An interior space should reflect the personality of the inhabitant and his/her taste and style of the occupant.An interior furnished with correct details add luster and appeal to the space of the inhabitant.The choice of materials, fabrics, textures and colors by the owner defines the look and the feel of the space hence it is of paramount importance that the details are to be taken care of.Most of the interior design work is initially carried out by architects themselves but with rapid industrialization and urbanization interior design emerged as a separate professional arena.

India is home to various mansions, houses and havelis that boasts interior design and displays the work of art.Throughout the 17th and 18th century and to the 19th century interior decoration was the prime focal point.In the mid to late 19th century interior design followed expansion with the growth of the middle class.Furniture firms also expanded their business.By the mid 20th century the field of professional interior design emerged.One of the notable figure who popularized theories of interior design was the architect Owen Jones.The grammar of ornament(1856) which includes 37 key principles of interior design and decoration is the notable work by Owen Jones.Its not just the interior of the building it is the space where one’s senses are satiated.Proper utilization of space, efficient use of materials and textures and colors with necessary zing creates a satiable interior.

Interior design is broadly classified into two domains- Residential and Commercial while the Residential interior design focuses on the design of the private residences, Commercial encompasses various disciplines such as Retail, Visual and Spatial branding, Corporate ,Healthcare, Hospitality and Recreation ,Institutional ,Exhibition to name a few. Interior Design is a discipline where the creative abilities of the designer gets translated into practical solutions for the space.Its overall look and feel ,of how an individual perceives the space, what changes and add on can be done to a space.Its a perfect mix of aesthetics blended with functionality.There are different styles of interior design -Art Deco ,Modern art and the use of Arab materials.The Art Deco interior design style began in Europe in the 20th century.Art Deco style is based on geometric shapes,streamlining and clean lines.Art Deco employed various materials such as chrome, glass, stainless steel, shiny fabrics, mirrors, aluminium, lacquer, inlaid wood, sharksin, zebraskin. The color themes included metallic color,neutral color ,bright color and black and white.Art Deco furnishings and lighting fixtures displayed opulence .It was glossy and used inlaid woods and reflective finishes.Light fixtures showed geometric patterns.Modern art derived itself from Art Deco in the 20th century.Modern art reached peak in 1950s and 1960s. Arab materials are from Arabic homes in the Asir province of Saudi Arabia and adjoining parts of Yemen.It consists of majlis painting.It consisted of geometric designs and heavy lines, exuberant colors and ornamentation mark those of Asir. Also in Arab materials are the artwork based on geometry of straight lines. It consists of motifs such as the triangular mihrab and the palmette. Homes consists of wall painting done by women who worked with lines, triangles, squares, diagonals and tree like patterns. Nadjdi architecture demonstrates features such as courtyards and pillared porticoes.

Well executed interiors enhances and uplifts the mood of the observer thus impacting him on psychological level.Little background music with beautiful interior adds to the necessary tone and creates space that is magical.Well executed office interiors helps increase productivity of the workers thus contributing to the revenue while cool home interiors has a direct impact on the health and well being of the occupant as it helps elevate mood and general senses.

In the times we live in, these beautiful thoughts about aesthetics are nourishing. Aesthetic value can be linked to the naturalness because it is related to human perception. It is rightly said that “Beauty lies in the eyes of beholders”.
    Some consider beauty not as physical property but as a relation between an object and an observer, as a bridge between the receiver and the transmitters. Beyond beauty, other views also include social and moral aspects of arts involving meaning and representations in aesthetic experience.
    Thoughts are nicely expressed in this well- written blog with few words but speaks in volumes. This gives a sense of wonder about the writing world.Numerous people will be benefitted from your writings.
